As forensic genealogy has become more prevalent over the past 5 years and is used by law enforcement many individuals are choosing to delete their profiles shared with Ancestry. 

By following our instructions highlighted below you will easily be able to opt-out of having your personal information stored and shared at Ancestry. But please note that in order to opt-out you will have to have an Ancestry account.

Manual Opt Out of ancestry.com (2024)

Step 1: Go to ancestry.com/secure/account/delete and sign into your account. 

Step 2: Verify your password and press "continue"

Step 3: Prior to proceeding you will receive a warning stating that you will no longer have an account with Ancestry and asking you to confirm if you wish to proceed with account deletion.

Step 4: Select a reason for your account deletion request. Then click "next step". 

Step 5: Login to the email associated with your Ancestry account and look for a verification code. 

Step 6: Paste the verification code into the confirmation field to finalize your deletion. 

Step 7: Ancestry will send a confirmation email to you confirming that they received your deletion request. 

Keep in mind that with Ancestry it could take up to 30 days for your deletion request to be finalized.
